The Preamble - It seems that I’m starting to like this style of writing. I’ve always liked reading blog posts of this nature, yet I’ve always refrained from writing them, for fear of saying too much, or sounding too shallow. Nonetheless, I’ll give it a shot, at least I’ll have a way of remembering those days gone by.
Morning - Despite trying to sleep early last night (and ending up writing this), I only slept slightly before 2am, inevitably dashing my original intention of getting up at 7am this morning. I finally got out of bed at 9am or so, packed my bag, and headed for Science Park I for the first stop of the day. Despite the humidity of the morning and the long walk to the bus stop, I was thankful that the bus came soon enough. There have been occasions when I’ve waited ages for 92, the only bus into Science Park I, so I guess I was lucky.
Arriving just in time at a particular office at The Franklin, it was a relatively straightforward WLAN setup. They probably only needed a pair of remote hands to set it up. With that done, I finished the report at the lobby and hopped over to NUS on the Science Park shuttle.
Slightly Before Noon - Arriving at NUS earlier than scheduled, I got off the shuttle at the Central Library and walked around the forum where they were having one of those bazaars that I’ve read about here. Interestingly enough, a group of people were setting up posters and exhibits for Islamic Awareness Week. I guess it’s supposed to tie in with the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad which happens to be today (monday) if you’re Sunni and friday if you’re Shia. Having lots of time on my hands, I spoke to one of them, and had an interesting talk with him about Islam, how the Abrahamic Faiths converge (or diverge) and the role of Islam in today’s society.
Noon - Having spent enough time at the forum, I headed over to NUS Comcen to take a look at the place. For some reason, curiousity brought me to the upper floors, where the offices are. Just as luck would have it, I managed to meet someone I knew there from previous email correspondences. I don’t suppose he’d be comfortable with being named on a blog in cyberspace, so let’s just leave him unnamed. Apparently there are interesting things going to happen, but for purposes of confidentiality, he couldn’t say more. So I’m left to infer, hypothesize and correlate with other contextual sources. Nonetheless, it was definitely a good experience to meet him.
Time for lunch, I ran over to Eng. canteen to meet lozx for lunch. Nasi Ayam Panggang at the Indonesian stall. I’m not sure why, but some things don’t taste as good the second time, though the chilli was good. But most importantly, the conversation was good. We talked about a number of things that really matter to me. I must say that I’m glad that yet another person has independently made the same observations that I have. We may not necessarily see things in the same light, yet what’s important is that we both care about these matters.
Afternoon - After lunch, we went to the post office at YIH because I needed to send gaofie’s stuff to different places around the world. With that done, we walked over to University Hall where lozx went back to work. I sat on one of the sofas along the glass panelled bridge overlooking the driveway, thinking about the future, whether I really like this place, and how I’m likely to feel about this place in five or six years. I didn’t come to a conclusion, but I think I’m nearing one. With that, I left and walked across the driveway to the bus stop and made my way home to catch up on some work. For what it’s been, I’ve had a good day and I’m thankful for it.
