Ctrl+Shift+6

March 29th, 2008

I’ve been pretty lazy recently so it’s been quite a long time since I’ve used a Cisco terminal server – or at least since I switched to Linux as my Desktop OS. Having never telnet-ed to a terminal server from a Linux box before, I bumped into a bit of difficulty during a lab session [...]

10GE Linux Routers

March 26th, 2008

UNIX flavoured boxes tend to be a pretty cost-effective solution when the cost of a $10,000 (or more) router from <favourite vendor> is too much to justify. After all, for the same price point, you can usually get an off-the-shelf server that has more RAM and CPU power than most mid-range routers – great for [...]

Steal This Film II

March 19th, 2008

Finally got round to watching this film after downloading it quite some time ago. If you haven’t gotten it yet, you can get it here – ( stealthisfilm.com ) – and yes, it’s free (as in both free speech and free lunch).

Note: Hijacked – In the most unintentional, accidental sense of the word
Considering that Above.net (AS 6461) has far better connectivity than Africa Online (AS 36915), the AS Path length to [...]

new theme and other things

March 15th, 2008

It’s been a long time since I last posted anything.
Nothing very interesting has happened recently but just as a point of interest, Telia and Cogent have depeered each other. ( gigaom.com ) The view from various route servers seem to support this claim.

Project RIS

March 1st, 2008

Routing Information Service (RIS) ( ripe.net ) is a beta tool from RIPE NCC.
Essentially, it’s a web based tool that integrates many of the network information lookup services that are frequently used. It’s a little slow when it comes to generating reports on large Autonomous Systems that are rather dynamic (such as those providing transit [...]
