resetting awstats

Sometimes your Awstats [ sourceforge.net ] counters get too big and unwieldy. Thus they become less and less effective at showing you the actual usage trends of your site. To reset them, simply clear out the relevant files in /var/lib/awstats.

something new from Cisco again

Nexus 7000 [ cisco.com ]
Seems to be rivaling the incumbent 6500 for the “King of Switches” in Cisco’s Data Centre line. Running a Linux based OS and Intel Processors on the Supervisor Engine. (Doesn’t that make you think of another vendor?)

backscatter mail

Sometimes, evil (yes, intended emphasis with the boldtype) spammers decide to spam someone and wrap the email with a fake “envelope-from” or basically, a bogus “return to” address.
What happens unfortunately is that when a decently configured SMTP server receives such an email, it bounces the email. But where to? The unfortunate victim of course!

Otherwise known as the 31 bit subnet mask or 255.255.255.254
Some people say that the minimum subnet is a /30 and you should always use /30 for point to point links. Well, at least CCNA 640-801 says that.
But according to RFC 3201 [ faqs.org ], /31 is a legal subnet mask.
